A Journey to Understanding the NL

March 28, 2013

One of the goals of this website is to become a destination for all fantasy baseball players and not just American League only players. This is proving to be a fairly large hurdle as I know basically nothing about NL only or mixed leagues nor does Eric. This page here will be dedicated to logging my journey to understanding the NL and mixed leagues for fantasy purposes. I have joined a mixed league that I’m trying to devote a fair amount of brain power to winning.

I find the biggest obstacle so far is in comparison. I know precisely what Ian Kinsler is predicted to do this year and the difference between him and Maicer Izturis for example. What I don’t know is whether the high draft pick (or $ price) attached to Kinsler is worth it vs. waiting on Jedd Gyorko and using the pick I would have used on Kinsler on someone else. I know that Petco is an extreme pitchers park but I also know that Chase Headley came out of nowhere to hit 31 home runs last year. Some guy on San Diego named Everth Cabrera stole 44 bases last year and yet I’ve never heard of him.

Apparently my problem is not with the NL but with the Padres haha.

My skills lie in looking at numbers to really understand the skills involved and then projecting them. What I don’t know is playing time concerns, injury history, top prospects nipping at the heels, managers that give green lights vs red lights, etc. For 13 years I have played AL only leagues and I know them very very well. This is going to be an adventure.
